There have been many attempts to convince the average person that their energy consumption might be out of control, but the fact is, unless they see exactly how they're spending their money categorically, it won't sink in. Enter startup software company Greenbox, who hopes to corner the market on utility company software reporting. Created by the same guys who brought us the Flash application, they've already scored a pilot deal with Oklahoma Gas and Electric and hope to get the ball rolling on more utility companies soon.The way it works is like this: utility customers will see a complete breakdown of their energy usage to help the customer understand the real cost of electricity as it pertains to their individual usage. This usage applies to time of day and current trends in how the rates are different throughout the day. Plus, they'll get to see which appliances are draining the most power and even get access to their neighborhood and peer group's usage as a comparison. It seems like a great idea, and with more and more competition sprouting in this market, we wish them the best of luck.
